Cheval Blanc is for me the biggest 55er with still big life expectancy (10+ years) and one of the best Cheval Blancs ever. If I am very much like this grandiose wine at auctions and Ebay partly cheaper than young Chevals, then I can think of nothing more! When I read my own notes on this wine, I'm immediately thirsty. 1996 at Willi Krähling: great stuff from a big year, perfect wine from overripe grapes - 100/100. 1998 in another rehearsal: absolute giant part and the wine of the evening, incredible pressure on the palate, stays there forever with wonderful chocolate against which Valrhona comes from Aldi. Perfection! - 100/100. And in the same year again: absolute perfection, so the 47er must have tasted in his wedding times, portly, tight, lives forever. Then in 1999 on Willi Krähling's Cheval Blanc sample from the Magnum: strong color, the nose of the evening with coffee, mocha and roast flavors, a great, thick part with a long future - 100/100. Last 2000 blind from a 1/2 bottle: the dense, still pretty young color, the portly Schmelz pointed to a great 83er Cheval, on 55 in the 1/2 !! I would never have come, incredible - 98/100. I have also had very good experience with the Vandermeulen bottling of Cheval Blanc. Is the chateau bottling only slightly after. Drunk at least 15 times in the last 10 years and consistently rated 97 + / 100. Was also in December 2003 with René Gabriel and my Swiss friends Cheval Blanc of the very best. 2006 on the great Cheval Blanc sample lavish sweetness, portly density, power and elegance in a wonderful, harmonious whole - 98/100. And a few more months later, powerful aromas, slightly portly, sweet, incredibly dense with fine mint and all in a harmonious whole with almost playful elegance and lightness - 100/100.
