Schloss Vollrads - the cradle of Rheingau Riesling
In the heart of the Rheingau, surrounded by the vineyards of the Winkeler Hasensprung and Oestricher Lenchen, sits Schloss Vollrads- one of the oldest wine estates in the world with an uninterrupted wine-growing tradition stretching back over 800 years. First mentioned in a document in 1211, the castle epitomises the essence of Riesling culture in the Rheingau.
The estate cultivates 65 hectares of vineyards in first-class locations characterised by deep slate and loess. Rieslings of crystalline clarity and impressive longevity are produced here - from the finely tart Kabinett to the noble sweet Trockenbeerenauslese. Schloss Vollrads has become particularly famous for its Goldkapsel wines, which have been a seal of quality since the 18th century.
What makes the wines so unique is their perfect balance between mineral freshness and ripe fruit. The grapes are gently pressed and the musts ferment slowly with natural yeasts. The result is wines of clear terroir precision - whether the classic Schloss Vollrads Riesling dry or the rarenoble sweet wines.
Today, the winery continues its long tradition with modern organic cultivation methods. Vintages such as 1921, 1945, 1959 and 2003 prove that Schloss Vollrads not only wrote history, but continues to set standards.
