Scapa - The maritime jewel of the Orkney Islands

In the shadow of its famous neighbour Highland Park, the Scapa distillery has been producing one of Scotland's most unusual single malts since 1885. As one of the most northerly distilleries in the country, Scapa is located on the Orkney Islands, where the harsh Atlantic climate characterises the whisky with unmistakable maritime characteristics.

Unlike most Scotch whiskies, Scapa uses a unique combination of traditional copper pot stills and the rare Lomond wash still, which gives the distillate a special complexity. The result is a whisky of exceptional balance: delicate honey notes meet maritime saltiness, underpinned by flavours of dried fruit and a subtle smoky note.

The Scapa Skiren, the current main bottling, impresses with its fresh, floral flavour and creamy texture. However, the limited bottlings such as the Scapa 16 Year Old, which matures in first-fill bourbon casks and develops intense vanilla and coconut flavours, are particularly noteworthy.

What makes Scapa special is its ability to capture the essence of the Orkney Islands - the vastness of the landscape, the salty sea air and the mystical atmosphere of this unique archipelago. While Highland Park stands for powerful peat, Scapa represents the more elegant side of Orcadian whisky-making.

Today, Scapa belongs to Pernod Ricard and remains one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Its whisky is an insider tip for connoisseurs looking for exceptional flavour experiences off the beaten track.
