Bruno Giacosa: Legend of Piedmont
The Bruno Giacosa winery, in the heart of the Langhe (Piedmont), has embodied the essence of traditional Barolo and Barbaresco art since the 1960s. Bruno Giacosa (1929-2018), known as "the master of Nebbiolo", made his mark on the wine world as a winemaker and selector with uncompromising quality. He originally purchased grapes from top vineyards before acquiring his own vines in 1982 with Falletto in Serralunga d'Alba and Asili/Rabajà in Barbaresco.
Giacosa's philosophy was based on a deep respect for the terroir: long maceration periods, natural ageing in large Slovenian oak barrels and a strict renunciation of barriques emphasised minerality and ageing potential. His wines, produced only in the best vintages, are characterised by elegant tannins, complex aromas (violets, truffles, red fruit) and timeless structure. Icons such as the Barolo Falletto and Barbaresco Asili are among the most sought-after in Italy.
After Bruno's death, his daughter Bruna Giacosa continued the legacy with the same dedication.
Bruno Giacosa, a perfectionist who even sorted out entire vintages, set standards for traditional vinification. Today, the wines symbolise the soul of Piedmont with their refined balance of strength and finesse. As the epitome of master craftsmanship, the estate enjoys cult status worldwide - a legacy that enchants collectors and connoisseurs alike.
