Giacomo Conterno: tradition and perfection in Piedmont
The Giacomo Conterno winery, founded in 1920 in Monforte d'Alba (Piedmont), is considered an icon of traditional Barolo. Founder Giacomo Conterno revolutionised the region by establishing Barolo as a long-lasting, complex wine - in contrast to the light style that was common at the time. His aim was to create wines of timeless elegance that would only realise their full potential after years of ageing.
Under his son Giovanni Conterno, the estate's reputation was consolidated. The introduction of Barolo Monfortinoin the 1970s, a pure Nebbiolo from the Francia vineyard (today "Cascina Francia"), became a legend. This wine, produced only in outstanding vintages, matures for years in large oak barrels and epitomises purity, depth and longevity. Today, grandson Roberto Conterno continues the legacy with dedication. He acquired the renowned Ceretta vineyard in 2008 and expanded the portfolio, always maintaining the traditional philosophy: long maceration, no barriques and maximum expression of the terroir.
Alongside the Monfortino, the Barolo Franciacharacterises the range - more accessible, but just as powerful. Both wines epitomise craftsmanship perfection and are among the most sought-after in Italy.
Giacomo Conterno stands for unadulterated elegance and continuity. With limited quantities and high prices, the wines symbolise exclusivity and the highest level of craftsmanship. As a benchmark for traditional Barolo, the estate enjoys cult status among collectors and connoisseurs worldwide - a legacy that has endured for generations.
