Château Haut-Batailley: Tradition and elegance from Pauillac

Château Haut-Batailley is an esteemed wine estate in the renowned Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux and is one of the Cinquièmes Crus of the official 1855 classification. It stands for classic, long-lasting wines with the typical character of the Médoc.

The estate was founded in the 18th century and belonged to the Borie family for a long time. In 1932, it was acquired by the wine merchant François-Xavier Borie, whose family also owns the famous Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. Since then, the estate has been cultivated with great care and is now one of the most reliable wines in the region.

The vineyards, which cover around 22 hectares, are located in the immediate vicinity of top estates such as Château Lynch-Bages and Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste. The soils consist of deep gravel, which is perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%). The wines from Haut-Batailley are characterised by their structured elegance, aromas of blackcurrant, violets and light smoky notes as well as finely integrated tannins.

The Grand Vin matures for around 16 months in oak barrels (40% new) and develops harmonious complexity in the cellar over many years. It is a typical representative of the Pauillac style - powerful, but with a fine balance.

Conclusion: Château Haut-Batailley is a reliable classic among Pauillac wines that combines tradition and terroir in an outstanding way.
