Château Haut-Bailly: elegance and finesse from the Graves

Château Haut-Bailly is one of the most renowned wine estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux and is known for its balanced, aromatically complex red wines. It belongs to the top group of Crus Classés de Graves and combines tradition with modern winemaking.

The history of the estate dates back to the 16th century, when Basque merchants planted the first vineyards. In the 19th century, it became famous under the leadership of Alcide Bellot. Since 1998, the château has been owned by the American Wilmers banking family, who have further refined the quality in collaboration with the experienced oenologist Gabriel Vialard.

The 30 hectares of vineyards are located on a unique gravel and sandstone plateau, which is characterised by deep gravel deposits from the Ice Age. The grape varieties consist of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (34%) and Cabernet Franc (6%). The wines are characterised by their velvety tannins, aromas of ripe berries, truffles and cedar wood as well as a mineral note.

The Grand Vin from Château Haut-Bailly matures for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (50-65% new) and develops great complexity over decades. Its unmistakable style combines power with delicate elegance - typical of the best wines from Graves.

Conclusion: Château Haut-Bailly is a wine of exceptional class that perfectly expresses the terroir of Pessac-Léognan and is one of the great personalities of Bordeaux.
