Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - Pauillac's powerful elegance
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a Fifth Grand Cru Classé from the top Pauillac appellation and is one of the most sought-after wine estates in the Médoc. Owned by the Borie family since the 16th century, the château is now run with passion by François-Xavier Borie. The name "Grand-Puy" refers to the favoured location on a gravelly hill, which offers the vines excellent drainage and optimal sunlight.
The 55 hectares of vineyards are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot - a classic composition for deep, long-lasting Pauillac wines. The barren, gravelly soil gives the wines their distinctive structure and mineral precision.
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is known for its perfect balance between power and finesse. The wines impress with flavours of blackcurrant, cedar wood and tobacco, supported by silky tannins and long freshness. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in modern stainless steel tanks before the wine matures for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (50% of which are new).
With its unmistakable character and outstanding value for money, Grand-Puy-Lacoste has been one of the best representatives of Pauillac for decades. A wine that masterfully expresses the essence of its famous origin - powerful, elegant and with great ageing potential.
