Château Figeac - tradition and innovation in Saint-Émilion
Château Figeac is one of the most famous wine estates in Saint-Émilion and was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé Ain 2022 - the appellation's highest honour. Its distinctive style differs from most wines on the right side of Bordeaux, as it contains an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (around 35%) alongside Merlot (35%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
The estate has a long history and was mentioned as early as the 2nd century as a Roman villa. Since the 19th century, it has been run by the Manoncourt family, who brought the wine to international fame. The gravelly, well-drained soils are similar to those of neighbouring Pomerol and give the wine its special minerality and structure.
Figeac wines are characterised by elegant aromas of black cherries, violets, liquorice and fine spices. They combine the depth of a Saint-Émilion with the freshness and straightforwardness of a Médoc. The 1982, 2000, 2015 and 2019 vintages in particular are considered outstanding.
Since 2013, the estate has been supported by the Saint-Émilion family(owners of Cheval Blanc), which has led to further quality improvements. With its unique terroir and exceptional blend of grape varieties, Château Figeac represents the perfect balance between tradition and modernity - a true Bordeaux jewel.
