Château d'Issan - elegance and history in the heart of Margaux
Château d'Issan is one of the oldest and most renowned wine estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux. As the third cru classé of the official 1855 classification, it combines historical tradition with modern winemaking. The name of the estate dates back to the 12th century, but its true winemaking history began in the 17th century. The picturesque château with its moats is not only an architectural jewel, but also stands for outstanding wines full of character and finesse.
The 44 hectares of vineyards lie on typical Margaux soils of gravel and sandy loam, which provide ideal conditions for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot (35%). The hand-picked harvest and gentle vinification guarantee wines of exceptional elegance. The Grand Vin from Château d'Issan impresses with its complex aromas of blackcurrants, violets and fine spicy notes, supported by silky tannins and a long ageing potential.
The estate is particularly proud of its historical connection to famous personalities - it is said that the wine was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England in 1152. Today, the Cruse family continues the legacy with passion, proving that true greatness in winemaking is timeless. Château d'Issan epitomises the aristocratic elegance for which Margaux is world-famous like no other.
