Château Croizet-Bages - 5éme Cru Classé with Pauillac character
Although Château Croizet-Bages is now classified as a Cru Bourgeois, it historically held the title of Cinquième Cru Classé(5éme Cru Classé) in the famous Bordeaux Classification of 1855. This original classification reflects the long tradition of the estate, which has been growing wine in the heart of Pauillac since the 18th century. Its name is derived from the Croizet family and the district of Bages, which is known for its outstanding terroir.
The wines of Croizet-Bages embody the typical Pauillac style: powerful, structured and with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar wood and fine spice. The vineyards are located on the gravel-rich soils of the appellation, which provide ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon in particular. Although the estate no longer belongs to the official Crus Classés, the quality remains convincing - with well-balanced, storable wines that are matured in oak barrels.
Compared to its big neighbours such as Latour or Lynch-Bages, the wines from Croizet-Bages are much more accessible, both in terms of price and drinking maturity. They offer an excellent opportunity to get to know the characteristic Pauillac style without investing heavily. For wine lovers who want to discover historic Bordeaux vineyards away from the big names, Château Croizet-Bages is a worthwhile choice - a piece of living wine history with an unmistakable terroir character.
