Château Brane-Cantenac - A classic of the Margaux terroir

Château Brane-Cantenac, a second Grand Cru Classé in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855, is one of the most renowned wine estates in the Margaux appellation. It owes its name to the visionary viticultural pioneer Baron Hector de Branne, who referred to the estate as the "King of Margaux-Crus" in the 19th century.

The 75 hectares of vineyards here are mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The deep gravel soils of the Margaux region give the wines their characteristic elegance and finesse. Their velvety tannin structure and aromas of blackcurrants, violets and a mineral note are typical.

Since 1992, the estate has been run by Henri Lurton, who favours sustainable cultivationand precise vinification. The grapes are strictly selected and matured in modern wooden and concrete barrels. In addition to the Grand Vin, the second wine "Baron de Brane" is produced, which is ready to drink earlier.

Brane-Cantenac perfectly embodies the Margaux style: less powerful than Pauillac, but with unrivalled fragrance and harmony. Top vintages such as 2015, 2016 and 2018 show the great potential of this terroir.
