Château Batailley - Tradition and elegance from Pauillac
Château Batailley is one of the best-known wine estates in Pauillac, one of the most prestigious appellations in Bordeaux. Classified as a fifth cru classé in 1855, this vineyard epitomises the typical elegance and power for which the wines from the Médoc are famous. Since its foundation in the 18th century, Château Batailley has built up an excellent reputation, particularly for its long-lasting and structured red wines.
The estate's vineyards cover around 60 hectares and consist mainly of deep gravel soils, which are ideal for the Cabernet Sauvignon (around 70%) and Merlot (25%) grape varieties, supplemented by small proportions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Batailley's wines are characterised by their dark fruit aromas, fine tannin structure and notes of cedar wood, tobacco and leather. As they mature, they develop an impressive complexity.
The estate has been owned by the Castéja family since 1932, who use modern techniques with great care and respect for tradition in order to constantly improve quality. In addition to the Grand Vin, the second wine "Lions de Batailley" is also produced, which is more accessible but still reflects the characteristic style of the château.
Château Batailley is an outstanding representative of classic Pauillac - perfect for lovers of structured, storable Bordeaux wines.
