Whisky Brora - A legendary single malt
Brora is one of the mythical names in the world of whisky. The distillery of the same name in the Scottish Highlands only produced from 1819 to 1983, but in this short time some of the most sought-after single malts in history were created.
Brora was originally founded as Clynelish, but when a new distillery was opened under this name in 1969, the old one was renamed Brora. In its final years (until 1983), it produced a smoky, strong whisky that is now one of the most sought-after rarities. Due to the limited stocks, original bottlings of Brora are extremely valuable and reach prices of several thousand euros per bottle at auction.
The flavour of Brora is complex and multi-layered: smoky notes of peat combine with fruity elegance, honey aromas and a slightly salty spiciness. This balance makes it a special highland whisky.
In 2017, Diageo, the current owner of the brand rights, announced the reopening of the distillery. Brora has been in production again since 2021, but whisky lovers will have to wait years for the new whisky to mature. Until then, the old bottles will remain unattainable collector's items.
Brora represents a bygone era of whisky - artisanal, mysterious and of unrivalled quality. Anyone who tastes it will experience a piece of Scottish whisky history.
