Blair Athol - The hidden treasure of the Highlands

The Blair Athol Distillery in Pitlochry, Scotland, is one of the oldest active distilleries in Scotland. Since its foundation in 1798, it has produced one of the most characterful single malts in the Highlands, although it is mainly known as a component of blends. Only a select few know the unadulterated Blair Athol as a single malt - a true discovery for whisky connoisseurs.

Blair Athol whiskies are characterised by their full-bodied, malty character with notes of honey, dried fruit and a subtle spiciness. The use of dark barley and slow fermentation give the distillate its typical depth. The 12-year-old original bottling, the only regularly available single malt version, shows a wonderful balance between sweet and spicy flavours after maturing in sherry casks.

The distillery itself is a picturesque postcard motif with its traditional pagoda roofs and the neighbouring bakery museum. It draws its water from the Allt Dour springs, which give the whisky its unmistakable freshness.

Although Blair Athol stands in the shadow of large blended brands, it is a single malt with remarkable complexity and authenticity. It is a whisky for purists that captures the essence of the Highlands in every sip - an insider tip off the beaten whisky track.
