Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot - An exceptional Burgundy estate
Domaine Jean-Yves Bizotin Vosne-Romanée is one of the most sought-after and exclusive wine estates in Burgundy. The former oenologist and viticulture professor Jean-Yves Bizot runs the small but fine estate with philosophical dedication and scientific precision. On just 3.5 hectares of vines - including plots in Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux and Vougeot - exceptional wines are produced year after year in minimal quantities.
Bizot's approach is radically terroir-orientated: He does not use artificial yeasts, heavy oak notes or technical interventions. Instead, he relies on late harvesting, whole bunch fermentation and natural processes to capture the essence of each individual climate. His Pinot Noirs mature for up to 24 months in used barrels, which gives them a rare elegance and transparency.
The Domaine's wines are characterised by their crystalline clarity, intense red fruit aromas and fascinating mineral tension. The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Jachées" and the Échezeaux Grand Cru in particular are regarded by connoisseurs as icons of the purist art of Burgundy.
With annual productions of often less than 500 bottles per cuvée, Bizot's wines are among Burgundy's most sought-after rarities. They embody a rare synthesis of intellectual depth and sensual finesse - true poetry in bottles.
