Aberfeldy: The golden honey whisky of the Highlands

The Scottish distillery Aberfeldy, founded in 1896 by John Dewar & Sons in the heart of the Highlands, is known for its velvety, honey-sweet single malt. As the most important base for the famous blends in the Dewar's range, Aberfeldy has also made a name for itself as an independent single malt - particularly thanks to its unmistakably smooth character with warm, aromatic notes.

The distillery is located in the picturesque valley of the River Tay, where it draws its water from the Pitilie spring. This mineral-rich water gives the whisky its special mildness. Aberfeldy relies on traditional production methods: Fermentation takes place in Douglas fir washbacks, which lend fruity nuances to the distillate, while the copper pot stills ensure a light, elegant texture.

The Aberfeldy single malt is predominantly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which give it flavours of honey, caramel, ripe apples and a delicate spiciness. Special bottlings are also matured in sherry or port casks, which gives the whisky additional depth and complexity. The 12-year-old and 16-year-old bottlings are particularly popular and epitomise the distillery's typical "honey whisky" style.

As the centrepiece of Dewar's blends, Aberfeldy contributes significantly to their harmonious profile. However, it also impresses as a single malt with its accessible elegance and warm sweetness - a perfect Highland whisky for connoisseurs who value balance and finesse.
