Brief report on the port wine producer Real Companhia Velha

Real Companhia Velha (also known as Royal Oporto) is the oldest and one of the most prestigious port wine companies in Portugal. Founded in 1756 by King José I under the direction of Marquês de Pombal, the company played a key role in the regulation and quality assurance of the port wine trade. Even today, Real Companhia Velha stands for tradition, excellence and historical heritage.

The company owns some of the best vineyards in the Douro Valley, including renowned quintas such as Quinta das Carvalhas and Quinta do Sibio, and by combining the latest technology with traditional production methods, Real Companhia Velha produces a wide range of Port wines - from classic Ruby and Tawny Ports to premium Vintage and Aged Tawny wines. The "Evel" series, which is one of the highest quality Colheita ports, is particularly well known.

One of the company's trademarks is the exceptional ageing in historic barrels and the careful selection of grapes. In addition to port wines, Real Companhia Velha also produces first-class Douro table wines that have won international awards.

With a strong focus on sustainability and preserving Douro traditions, Real Companhia Velha remains a leading name in the industry. Visitors can tour the historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and experience the rich history of port wine.
