Short report about the port wine producer Quinta do Noval
Quinta do Novalis one of the most famous and traditional port wine producers in the Douro Valley, Portugal. The winery was founded in 1715 and is particularly known for its high-quality Vintage Ports, including the legendary Quinta do Noval Nacional - an unfined Port wine from old, indigenous vines that is one of the most sought-after and expensive wines in the world.
The estate is characterised by its unique steep slate soils, which lend the wines mineral complexity and intense aromas. Quinta do Noval favours sustainable viticulture and retains traditional methods such as hand-picking and fermentation in granite lagares. In addition to Vintage Ports, the estate also produces outstanding Tawny Ports, including old vintage Tawnys (Colheitas) and blend-based Tawnys with long barrel ageing.
A trademark of Quinta do Noval is the "Nacional" parcel, a small area of vineyards resistant to phylloxera, which has remained ungrafted for over 100 years and produces extremely low yields. The resulting wines are rare, powerful and exceptionally long-lived.
Quinta do Noval enjoys the highest international reputation and is regularly honoured with awards. The winery offers guided tours and tastings to visitors, allowing them to experience the fascinating history and production of port wine.
With a blend of tradition and innovation, Quinta do Noval remains a leading name in the port wine world and a symbol of Portuguese excellence.
