Fonseca - A century of port wine excellence

Since its foundation in 1822, Fonseca has been one of the most renowned port wine producers in the world. The traditional house, now part of the Fladgate Partnership, stands for powerful, aromatically complex port wines that are particularly appreciated for their opulent fruit and long-lasting structure.

Outstanding vineyards and perfect craftsmanship

Fonseca cultivates some of the best "quintas" in the Douro Valley, including the famous Quinta do Panascal and Quinta do Cruzeiro. The old vines on these steep slopes produce grapes with intense concentration, which form the basis for Fonseca's characteristic Vintage Ports. The "Fonseca Guimaraens", a vintage port that is produced in less strongly declared vintages but still offers the highest quality, is particularly well-known.

Masterful cuvées and mature tawnies

In addition to its legendary Vintage Ports - including the celebrated Fonseca 1948 - the house shines with its Tawny Ports(10, 20, 30 and 40 years old), which develop their unmistakable nuances of nuts, dried fruit and caramel through slow oxidation in oak barrels. Also worth mentioning is the "Bin No. 27", an aromatic Ruby Port that is considered one of the best of its kind.

Fonseca is increasingly focussing on sustainable viticultureand the reduced use of sulphites, without sacrificing the typical fullness and ageability of the wines.
