Ferreira: A port wine house with tradition

Ferreira is one of the best-known and oldest port wine houses in Portugal. Founded in 1751 by José Ferreira, the company has built up an excellent reputation over the centuries. Ferreira is particularly proud of its Portuguese roots, as it is one of the few large port wine companies that has remained continuously in Portuguese hands.

The heart of Ferreira lies in the Douro Valley, a breathtaking region in the north of Portugal that is famous for its viticulture. This is where the grapes for the high-quality Port wines are grown, including Ruby, Tawny, Vintage and Late Bottled Vintage (LBV). Ferreira is particularly well-known for its "Dona Antónia", a premium tawny port wine named after the legendary entrepreneur Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. She led the company to great prosperity in the 19th century and is still revered today as the "Queen of the Douro".

Ferreira relies on traditional production methods combined with modern technology to guarantee the best quality. The wines are matured in barrels in the historic warehouses in Vila Nova de Gaia and are characterised by their balance, elegance and longevity.

With its rich history, outstanding wines and deep connection to Portuguese culture, Ferreira remains a symbol of excellence in the port wine sector. A glass of Ferreira port wine is not only a pleasure, but also a piece of Portuguese heritage.
