Da Silva - Family-run port wine tradition since 1862
The Da Silva port house, founded in 1862 in the heart of the Douro Valley, represents over 160 years of family-owned port craftsmanship. Unlike many large port producers, the company has retained its independent identity and still relies on traditional production methods with a personal touch.
Da Silva has become particularly well known for its excellent tawny port wines, which develop their characteristic complexity through decades of barrel ageing. The age classifications(10, 20, 30 and 40 years) impress with their perfect balance between sweet fruit and elegant oxidation tones of nut, caramel and dried figs.
The house also produces remarkable vintage ports in outstanding vintages, which are among the richest and longest-lived in the region. The Da Silva Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) ports are particularly appreciated for their accessibility and consistent quality.
A hallmark of the company is the use of grapes from old vines, some of which are over 80 years old, in the best vineyards of Cima Corgo. The hand-picked harvest and fermentation in traditional granite lagares (fermentation vats) emphasise the pursuit of quality.
In contrast to large industrialised producers, Da Silva preserves the character of a genuine family business - every bottle tells the story of the Douro Valley with authentic terroir expression. Today, the legacy is carried on by the fifth generation, which harmoniously combines tradition and modern demands.
For port connoisseurs, Da Silva represents a genuine alternative to the major brands - perfected craftsmanship, with unmistakable character and timeless elegance.
