Cálem Port House - tradition and innovation at the heart of the port world

Founded in 1859 by José Joaquim Cálem in Vila Nova de Gaia, the Cálem Port House is one of the best-known and most traditional port wine producers in Portugal. With over 160 years of experience, the company combines traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art winemaking and is now part of the Sogevinus Fine Wines Group, which also includes other renowned houses such as Kopke and Burmester.

Cálem is particularly known for its high-quality ruby and tawny port wines, which impress with their balanced sweetness, intense fruit flavours and elegant structure. The Cálem 20 Years Old Tawny is considered one of the best in its class and impresses with its complex nuances of dried fruit, nuts and fine oak notes. The company's Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) port wines are also very popular, as they are rich yet accessible.

A special highlight is the cooperation with the FC Porto football club, which is reflected in the exclusive "Cálem FC Porto" edition - a port wine that not only delights fans.

The winery favours sustainable cultivation in the UNESCO-protected Douro Valley and preserves the typical terraced vineyards, which are crucial for the high quality of the grapes. In addition to classic port wines, Cálem also produces modern Douro DOC wines that emphasise the region's potential for dry red and white wines.

With its long history, innovative approaches and outstanding wines, Cálem remains a force to be reckoned with in the port wine world.
