Borges - tradition and innovation in port wine
Borges is one of the oldest and most respected port wine producers in Portugal. The family business was founded in 1884 by the brothers António and Francisco Borges and has since developed into one of the leading wineries in the Douro Valley. Known for its high-quality port wines, Borges combines traditional production methods with modern technology.
Borges' portfolio includes a wide range of Port wines, including Ruby, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) and Vintage Ports. Of particular note are the Tawny Ports with age statements (10, 20, 30 and 40 years), which stand out for their complex aromas of dried fruits, spices and wood fibres. Borges' vintage ports are highly sought after by collectors and are characterised by their strength and longevity.
Borges controls the entire production process - from growing the grapes in the best locations in the Douro Valley to ageing in the historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Both traditional methods such as stamping the grapes in granite lagares and modern fermentation processes are used.
In addition to port wine, Borges also produces excellent Douro table wines, making the company a versatile player in the Portuguese wine world. With over 140 years of experience, Borges stands for quality craftsmanship and continuous innovation. The wines are internationally recognised and reflect the unique character of the Douro Valley. Borges thus remains an important ambassador for Portuguese port wine.
