Product information
Appearance:
Deep garnet red with slightly brownish edges - typical of a mature Bordeaux from this era. The colour still shows amazing density for a 60-year-old wine.
Nose:
Complex and tertiary in character, with aromas of dried plums, cedar wood, tobacco leaves and a fine truffle note. Underneath, there are subtle hints of leather, cocoa and a pleasant earthy spiciness. No more fruit freshness, but a wonderfully harmonious maturity.
Palate:
Amazingly lively for its age! The tannins are fully integrated and flatteringly soft. Flavours of ripe cherries, preserved figs, dark chocolate and a slight smoky nuance. The acidity is still noticeable and gives the wine structure.
Finish:
Long finish with elegant memories of tobacco, leather and a slight mineral note. No signs of fatigue - the wine is velvety and balanced.
Overall impression:
A superbly aged Saint-Émilion that perfectly embodies the elegance and complexity of old Bordeaux wines. The 1964 vintage was not a legendary one, but well-aged bottles like this prove that even "medium" vintages can mature magnificently over time.
Rating:
93/100 points (A classic, fully mature Bordeaux with charm and character).
Notes on ageing & drinking maturity:
This wine has probably already reached its peak, but shows no signs of degradation.
Ideally decanted (30 minutes) to remove any sediment.
Perfect accompaniment to game dishes, mature cheese or simply on its own as a contemplation wine.
