Product information

Tasting note:

Appearance:
Deep, slightly cloudy mahogany with amber-coloured reflections - a wine with a historic patina that wears its 65 years with dignity.

Nose:
A sublime bouquet that immediately captivates: dried violets, old library leather volumes, truffle, tobacco leaf and a hint of rancio reminiscent of the finest sherry. Underneath, hidden notes of preserved cherry, sandalwood and an almost medicinal, pure iron minerality.

Palate:
Surprisingly lively for its age! The acidity is like an invisible scaffold that supports the wine radiantly. The flavour is dominated by mushroom consommé, candied orange peel, black tea and a smoky, almost pitch-like depth. The tannins have long since melted into silk, the finish seems endless - leaving impressions of brine and dried herbs.

Conclusion:
A mythical Barolo from a time when Gaja did not dare to experiment with modernism, but instead sought pure terroir expression. The 1959 is not a powerful wine, but a quiet revelation: as fragile as old parchment, yet of everlasting complexity.

Drinking maturity:At its peak - any further ageing is a risk. Always store upright before opening and decant carefully (sediment!).

Rating: ★★★★★ (historical rarity, for collectors and time travellers)

Note:A bottle like this is now a museum piece. If you are lucky enough to open it: Serve at 16-18°C, accompanied by white truffle or nothing at all - the wine deserves absolute silence.
