Product information
Château Lafite Rothschild 1992 (Pauillac, Bordeaux)
Vintage conditions:
1992 was a difficult year in Bordeaux with cool, rainy weather resulting in reduced grape concentration and a lighter structure. Harvest conditions were challenging, which is reflected in the aging potential of the wine.
Sensory description:
Colour: Medium ruby red with a delicate orange tinge (typical of mature Bordeaux).
Nose:Cedar, dried herbs (laurel, tobacco), subtle notes of ripe plum and blackcurrant, accompanied by earthy aromas (forest soil, truffle) and a slight vegetal nuance.
Palate:Light to medium-bodied, with soft, mature tannins and restrained acidity. Dominated by tertiary flavours such as leather, tobacco, mocha and dried mushrooms. The fruit (black cherries, cassis) has faded but is still noticeable.
Finish: Moderately long, with a hint of graphite and a slightly tart, spicy aftertaste.
Rating:
This wine has been at its peak since the 2010s and should be consumed as soon as possible as the fruit continues to fade. Critics such as Robert Parker rated it 92-94/100, emphasising its elegance but also its limited complexity compared to strong vintages. Interesting for lovers of mature Bordeaux wines, but not a highlight of the château.
Drinking recommendation:
Serve within 1-2 hours when the bottle is open. Goes well with subtle dishes such as game birds or mushroom risotto. A piece of wine history, but not an opulent experience.
