Château Clerc-Milon Rothschild - A fifth growth of class
Château Clerc-Milon Rothschild is a renowned wine estate in the Bordeaux region of Pauillac and has been part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) group since 1970. As a fifth growth (Cinquième Cru Classé) of the famous 1855 classification, it produces powerful, long-lasting red wines of international renown.
Location and terroir
The estate lies between the top wine estates of Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild and benefits from similarly high-quality soils - deep gravel terraces with excellent drainage, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon (around 50% of the vines). The grape variety is complemented by Merlot (37%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Petit Verdot (2%) and Carménère (1%).
Wine character and vinification
The wines of Clerc-Milon are characterised by their deep structure, aromas of blackcurrant, cedar wood and tobacco as well as fine tannins. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in modern fermentation tanks and then matured for 16-18 months in French oak barrels (40-50% of which are new).
Vintages and prestige
Remarkable vintages such as 2016, 2018 and 2020 show the estate's potential. Clerc-Milon is considered an excellent, slightly cheaper alternative to the neighbouring Premier Crus.
Château Clerc-Milon Rothschild combines traditional Bordeaux expertise with modern precision. As part of the Rothschild dynasty, it stands for outstanding quality and is one of the best fifth crus in the Médoc.
