Château Chasse-Spleen - The exceptional soul of Moulis
Château Chasse-Spleen, a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, is considered one of the best wine estates in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellationand enjoys a high international reputation. Its poetic name ("banish sorrow") is said to derive from a poem by Lord Byron and reflects the invigorating elegance of its wines.
With 120 hectares of vineyards, the estate lies on deep gravel soils that provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%) and Petit Verdot (10%). The wines are characterised by their powerful structure and finesse, with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar wood and a subtle hint of spice.
Under the management of the Merlaut family(since 2000), the estate favours sustainable cultivation and modern vinification techniques. 40% of the wine is matured in new barriques, allowing the wines to develop their characteristic balance between fruit and complexity.
The second wine "L'Ermitage de Chasse-Spleen" is produced alongside the Grand Vin. Outstanding vintages such as 2015, 2016 and 2019 show the exceptional potential of this Cru Bourgeois, which regularly competes with renowned Crus Classés.
Chasse-Spleen proves that true class does not always need a classification - a must for Bordeaux lovers looking for high-quality alternatives.
