Château Cantenac Brown - British charm in the heart of Margaux
Château Cantenac Brown, a third Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, is one of the most distinctive wine estates in the Margaux appellation. It owes its name to the Scottish wine pioneer John Lewis Brown, who acquired the estate in the 19th century and gave it its British character with the unmistakable Tudor-style château.
Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) thrive here on 60 hectares of vineyards on the typical gravel and sandy soils of Margaux. The wines impress with their fragrant elegance, velvety tannins and complex aromas with notes of violets, blackcurrants and a delicate hint of cedar wood - characteristic of the Margaux terroir.
Under the management of José Sanfins since 2019, the estate has focussed on sustainable viticultureand precise vinification. Particular attention is paid to gentle extraction in order to preserve the typical Margaux finesse. The wine is aged 50-60% in new barriques.
The second wine "Brio de Cantenac Brown" is produced alongside the Grand Vin. Outstanding vintages such as 2015, 2016 and 2018show the great potential of this vineyard. With its unique British heritage and modern winemaking philosophy, Cantenac Brown embodies the perfect symbiosis of tradition and innovation.
