Château Camensac - Up-and-coming quality in the Haut-Médoc

Château Camensac, a Fifth Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, is located in the Haut-Médoc appellationand has developed into a remarkable quality wine estate in recent decades. Although it was long overshadowed by its better-known neighbours, today it impresses with balanced, characterful wines at a comparatively accessible price.

Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot(40%) grow predominantly on 85 hectares of vines, which find optimal conditions on the iron-rich gravel soils of the Haut-Médoc. The wines show a beautiful balance between powerful structure and elegant finesse, with flavours of blackcurrant, plum and a subtle spiciness.

Since the Merlautfamily (also owners of Chasse-Spleen) took over the estate in 2005, it has been modernised. Targeted investments in the vineyard and the cellar have significantly improved the quality. In addition to the Grand Vin, the second wine "La Closerie de Camensac" is produced.

Special vintages such as 2015, 2016 and 2019show the increased potential of this vineyard. Camensac proves that fifth crus can also offer top quality today - perfect for Bordeaux lovers looking for affordable alternatives.
