Glenury Royal - A lost legend from Scotland

Glenury Royal was a Scottish whisky distillery in Stonehaven that produced from 1825 to 1985. It was one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and was held in high esteem, especially by the British royal family. King William IV even awarded it the title "Royal" - a rare honour that only a few distilleries bear.

Glenury Royal produced a classic Highland malt with a strong but balanced character. The whisky was traditionally matured in sherry and bourbon casks, which gave it notes of dried fruit, honey and light spice. The older bottlings in particular were known for their complexity and depth.

Despite its historical significance, the distillery was closed in 1985, like many others during the whisky crisis. Today, original bottles of Glenury Royal are extremely rare collector's items. Diageo, the last owner, occasionally releases limited edition bottlings in its "Special Releases" series, which are highly sought after by connoisseurs.

Glenury Royal remains a symbol of lost whisky traditions. Its history is reminiscent of a time when small, independent distilleries still characterised Scotland's whisky heritage. For lovers of old single malts, every drop of this lost whisky is a precious piece of history.
