Burmester - Tradition and excellence in the Douro Valley

Burmester, founded in 1730, is one of the oldest and most renowned port wine producers in Portugal. Based in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the banks of the Douro River, the family business has been combining traditional craftsmanship with modern winemaking for almost 300 years. The vineyards are located in the UNESCO-protected Douro Valley, where steep terraces and a unique microclimate provide ideal conditions for high-quality grapes.

Burmester is best known for its exquisite port wines, including Ruby, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) and Vintage Ports. The Tawny Ports in particular, which mature for years in oak barrels, impress with their complex flavours of dried fruit, nuts and caramel. The Vintage Ports, on the other hand, are strong, fruity and long-lasting, often celebrated as the house's top wines.

In addition to port wine, Burmester also produces outstanding Douro DOC wines that emphasise the region's potential for dry red and white wines. The grapes come from old vines and are vinified gently to preserve their characteristic minerality and fruit.

The winery attaches great importance to sustainability and favours environmentally friendly cultivation methods. The historical storage methods in barrels and the modern equipment in the cellar guarantee the highest quality.

Burmester port wines are appreciated worldwide and are enjoyed as a digestif or with desserts. The winery epitomises the Portuguese art of winemaking and remains a reference for port wine lovers.

With its rich history, outstanding wines and timeless elegance, Burmester is a must for any wine enthusiast.
